Men married to older women on the rise

Men married to older women take up 17 percent of couples, Statistics Korea said Tuesday.

There are 200,000 more men married to older women who are in their 20s and 30s, the women having jobs and being financially independent, according to the analysis.

The number is expected to keep rising, it added.

The number of divorced women marrying a bachelor is also rising.

Men marrying more than once accounted for 15 percent of the total number of marriages and 17 percent for women.

Fewer people are getting married, and the age of people entering into matrimony married is getting older.

The average marrying age of female Seoul residents passed 30 for the first time, it added.
