Normally, people like to artificially reduce their age for various reasons. For an Ahn living in Chongju, the reverse was the case since he had other motives in mind.
What made it possible for Ahn to jack up his age from 60 to 98 was a change in permanent residency system through which he registered himself as a 98-year-old man born Jan. 15, 1915.
By doing so, he was entitled to pensions totaling 22.8 million won ($20,000) over a period of 48 months.
While he was actually the second of six children in his family, he disguised himself as an orphan and got away with the false registration at the end of 2008.
Ahn actually has a long criminal record, from falsifying financial certificates to making up a winning Lotto ticket.
The police had been looking for him for various criminal offenses but to no avail. As far as the courts were concerned, it said there was no reason to doubt Ahn since his identity was backed up by his Christian ministry.
Funny enough, he appeared in one of the traveling singing contests and called the MC, Song Hae, who is in his late 70s, his little brother.
