'Please help my sister rest in peace'

Listen

A brother’s plea for help his dead sister rest in peace is raising strong public sentiments.

He has been posting messages on the Internet, asking public support for a harsh sentence on those who sexually assaulted his sister who was in college last year in Suwon in an appeals court.

The man began posting a wide range of messages on public debate sites on behalf of his slain 21-year-old sister who was murdered last Aug. 28. He has managed to collect 105,000 signatories as of Tuesday.

The plaintiffs filed an appeal, apparently convinced that the sentences were too harsh. “If the sentences are reduced by a minute or even one second, I will probably go insane,” the brother said in his postings.

A 28-year-old Goh and a 24-year-old Shin received sentences for sexual assault but not for murder since the court recognized that the dead woman was heavily intoxicated.

Court records show that Goh and Chin were sentenced to 10 and 12 years in jail for taking the woman to a motel after a night of drinking and gang raping her.
