The news of an incumbent prosecutor having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female victim has shocked the nation.
The prosecution is under immense fire as the recent incident came after Kim Kwang-jun, a senior prosecutor, has been charged receiving a large amount of embezzlement.
According to the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, an intern prosecutor allegedly called a 40-year-old woman under investigation for theft and offered to let her go if she sex with him.
The intern prosecutor reportedly met with the woman three days later. Both are known to be married.
The prosecutor graduated from a law school last March and was assigned to an office in the provinces.
A lawyer representing the woman filed a complaint. The woman also reportedly asked for 50 million won ($45,000) to keep the case closed.
The auditing office of the prosecution is investigation all aspect of the case, especially on whether the intern prosecutor acted out of line in questioning the woman.
