Children go down screaming

Listen

A high school dropout with mental problems infiltrated an elementary school with a mini-shovel, running children down and inflicting serious injuries on six of them a day before the Chuseok holidays.

The bizarre incident took place at an elementary school in Seocho-gu, southern Seoul, Friday at 11 a.m. when the assailant entered a class with a mini-shovel and a stun gun and started swinging away at about 30 children.

The students began screaming and running out the back door even as the teacher, who was a woman, tried to stop him.

The chase continued for about five minutes during which an 11-year-old student was struck in the chin hard and injured seriously along with five others.

As the chaos became fully blown up two male teachers from nearby classrooms rushed into scene and restrained the assailant. He has been found to be suffering from depression and carried a note saying that he will not give excuses for his actions.
