What is the most common name in Korea? "Kim Young-sook" is the answer, according to an analysis of all names registered with the authority.
The name is shared by as many as 40,335 individuals across the country, said credit information service provider NICE, which analyzed 42.66 million names in use in South Korea.
"Kim Jung-sook" turned out to be the nation's second most popular name used by 39,663 persons, followed by "Kim Jung-hee" at 37,419, "Kim Young-hee" at 35,190 and "Kim Young-ja" at 34,865, NICE said.
It also noted that there are 111 family names in the nation used by more than 2,000 people.
Among them, Kim is the most common family name accounting for 21.54 percent of the Korean people surveyed, followed by Lee at 14.79 percent, Park at 8.43 percent, Chung at 4.83 percent and Choi at 4.72 percent, it said.
Men total 21.9 million, or 51.37 percent of the population, while women make up 48.63 percent with 20.7 million, NICE added. (Yonhap)
