Ahn Cheol-soo, a software entrepreneur-turned-professor known to have political ambitions, paid a surprise visit on Friday to a national cemetery honoring those killed in the 1980 Gwangju democracy uprising.
The founder of software firm Ahnlab and present dean of a convergence science graduate school at Seoul National University arrived at the May 18th National Cemetery with four aides at 10:50 a.m.
He signed the visitor's book and laid flowers at a monument for those killed in the military crackdown. He visited the graves of others buried at the national shrine and left around 11:20 a.m.
Cemetery officials said they were not notified in advance of the visit, and Ahn did not request a guide. (Yonhap)
