A message circulated among students’ families in a middle school in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, said students should “act like you are crazy” when in danger of sexual assault.
The message, amounting to three regular pages, was sent to families as part of information concerning students’ health during the summer vacation.
In the circulatory note, it mentioned that the best option when facing possible sexual assault if to “run away as fast as you can” or scream “fire.”
The one item that caught the attention of parents was that they should “act as if they are crazy” and look for an opportunity to get away.
One parent said, ”Is this the best advise that the school can give to students. The school should be looking for more practical ways of preventing sexual assault.”
School authorities said teachers put together the message based on information found on the Internet and that they should have been more careful about what was actually distributed among students and their parents.
