Listen

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sunday and agreed to work closely together to get North Korea to give up its nuclear programs, the presidential office said.

Lee and Clinton met bilaterally on the sidelines of a summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Russia's Far Eastern city of Vladivostok. Clinton attended the annual forum on behalf of President Barack Obama, who is busy with election campaigning.

The two exchanged views on recent developments in North Korea and agreed to continue close cooperation to help North Korea make right decisions, including denuclearization, improvement of people's lives and resuscitating its broken economy, the presidential office said in a release.

They also shared an understanding that Seoul and Washington have forged the best-ever alliance and developed global partnership over the last four years, and agreed to make concerted efforts to move the alliance further forward in the future, the statement said.

Also discussed were major global issues, such as Iran's nuclear program, it said. (Yonhap)
