Twenty-eight percent of single men living in Gangnam, the affluent district in southern Seoul, run a business on their own, a recent survey said.

Daks Club, a Gangnam-based marriage agency, conducted the survey at a time when rapper PSY is gaining attention over the Internet with his new song "Gangnam Style."

The survey of 50 unmarried men and 50 single women living in Gangnam said 24 percent of male respondents work as management consultants or for financial businesses.

As to female respondents, 14 percent were school teachers, while 12 percent were civil servants, the poll said.

Some 10 percent of female interviewees work for large businesses, while eight percent are professionals. Twelve percent are jobless or students.

The survey said 38 percent of male respondents said they put priority on appearance when they choose spouses, followed by 24 percent and 16 percent who placed an emphasis on academic and family background, respectively.

As for women, 36 percent said they put priority on the ability to earn a living when they pick a spouse, followed by 31 percent and 21 percent who place emphasis on appearance and family background, respectively.
