Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla Miranda will receive honorary citizenship of Seoul during a meeting with Mayor Park Won-soon on Monday as the 12th foreign head of state to be awarded the honor, officials said.

Chinchilla arrived Sunday for summit talks with President Lee Myung-bak scheduled for Tuesday. She is the first Costa Rican leader to visit Korea in 11 years.

On Monday afternoon, Chinchilla is scheduled to visit Seoul's City Hall to meet with Mayor Park and receive the honorary citizenship. The two are also expected to share successful policy examples and discuss ways to enhance exchanges, officials said.

Her four-day visit also includes a meeting with Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, a reception celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, a luncheon meeting with South Korean business leaders, and visits to universities and other places.

Chinchilla took office in 2010 as the first female president of the Latin American nation. (Yonhap)
