Ex-Saenuri lawmaker summoned a third time in bribery scandal

Listen

A former ruling party lawmaker was summoned by prosecutors here on Sunday for a third round of questioning over allegations that she used bribes to win the Saenuri Party's proportional representation ticket ahead of April's general elections.

Rep. Hyun Young-hee, who was expelled from the Saenuri Party on Friday, is suspected of passing about 300 million won ($264,700) in bribes to a member of the party's committee responsible for nominating proportional candidates.

Hyun has denied the allegations. "I'll faithfully deal with questioning by prosecutors," Hyun told reporters briefly before entering the Busan District Prosecutors' Office shortly after 10 a.m.

Prosecutors in the port city of Busan have questioned Hyun twice so far, on Aug. 6 and on Friday. Last week, her status was changed to a criminal suspect. (Yonhap)
