New boilermakers make debut in Seoul

Listen

New forms of “boilermakers” known as “energy bomb shots'' have recently made their debut in the country, industry sources said Wednesday.

Previously, the bomb, or “poktanju” was a shot of whiskey dumped into a glass of beer.

Now “jagerbomb” and “agwabomb” among others, which are a combination of alcohol and energy beverages such as “Red Bull” and “Hot 6,” are popular among those in their 20s and 30s at “clubs” in Gangnam and Hongdae, the sources said.

“Herbriquru” is a mixture of herbs, vodka and rum. Its alcohol content exceeds 30 percent, compared with 35 percent for “jager” and 30 for percent “agwa.” Energy beverages, which contain lots of caffeine, are added to them.
