A former ruling party lawmaker voluntarily appeared before prosecutors Friday for questioning over allegations he received bribes from a candidate seeking party nomination ahead of April's general elections.

Hyun Ki-hwan, who served on the ruling Saenuri Party's election nomination committee, is suspected of receiving 300 million won ($265,000) from Rep. Hyun Young-hee who became a lawmaker on a party proportional representation ticket.

Both Hyuns have categorically denied the allegations against them.
