N Seoul Tower, at the center of the capital city, has been chosen as Seoul's best attraction promoting Korean popular culture, a survey showed Friday.

According to results of the survey on the most suitable place for further promoting "Hallyu," or the Korean wave, via soap operas and films, N Seoul Tower topped the list, followed by Myeong-dong, the city's main shopping district, and the city's historic neighborhood of Bukchon Hanok Village.

Hallyu refers to the rising popularity of Korean popular culture including TV shows and music, which has secured hordes of fans in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Located at the top of Mount Nam (Namsan) in central Seoul, N Seoul Tower offers a panoramic view of the city, along with other conveniences such as dining and shopping.

The survey was conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government on its Web site for two weeks from June 20 and involved 2,800 respondents, including 2,474 foreigners.

Asked the best genre for Hallyu soap operas and movies, the largest number of respondents chose love stories, followed by dramas on everyday life and romantic comedies.

Park Yu-chun, a member of K-Pop boy band JYJ, was selected by foreign respondents as the celebrity who best fits the image of Seoul, followed by actors Lee Min-ho and Kim Soo-hyun.

"Based upon the survey results, we will develop diverse tour programs and travel courses to satisfy visitors and further spread the Korean culture," city official Kwon Hyuk-so said. (Yonhap)
