A famous plastic surgery company and an illicit moneylender cooperated in a plastic surgery scheme for bar hostesses, raking in more than 2 billion won.
When a man surnamed Kang, 35, who worked for a long time in the nightlife entertainment industry, noticed the popularity of plastic surgery among waitresses at bars and clubs, he sought out a moneylender. Together, they created a package called the Beauty Loan, where Kang would “help bring in hostesses who wanted plastic surgery and then split the interest income.”
After interviewing the women that Kang found, the moneylender decided he would lend 15 million won to attractive women, and only 5 million to average-looking women. The reasoning behind such a decision was that attractive women would have more customers and be able to pay back the loan easily.
Kang and the moneylender then made the women sign a guarantee and even give them their bank account numbers.
From November until June, Kang raked in 2.7 billion won from 269 women.
The Supreme Prosecutor’s Office dealing with illegal financing arrested 13 people including Kang for fraud. “The perpetrators will be treated with a zero-tolerance policy,” says a prosecutor.
