A video of a traffic accident in Bupyeong, Incheon, on June 13 has been posted online, enraging netizens due to the female car driver who caused a fatality in the incident.
The 21-second clip titled, “Image of Mrs. Kim in Accident” was collected from a black box, or data recording device, in a car which was parked near the scene. It was first put on YouTube, Sunday, and then spread rapidly.
The video shows a white sedan ramming into the rear of a black cash transportation truck, which was parked by the side of the road. A 38-year-old, at the back of the truck, died shortly after getting both legs cut off in the crash. His co-worker, 39, was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the white sedan has been identified as a 55-year-old female with 10 years driving experience.
Police said that the female driver dozed off at the wheel on her way home from a skin care clinic.
Comments from netizens include: "Shouldn't the driving test be much harder?" "Why wasn't she cautious when driving?" and "How could she drive that fast?"
Some were concerned about “Mrs. Kim,” being used as a derogatory name to ridicule unskilled mid-aged female drivers.
"My mother is an experienced driver. She has never caused an accident since she started driving 10 years ago,” said a Twitter (dolftom***) user. “But she'd be called Mrs. Kim if she gets in a car crash, right?"
