Police Monday arrested a woman and her lover on suspicion of murdering and dumping her husband into a river six years ago to take insurance money.
They are identified as 54-year-old woman, Kim, and 57-year-old Jung, who are alleged to kill
Lee, 57, in collaboration in 2006.
The regional police in South Jeolla Province said that the women took away 1.2 billion won in insurance money when Lee was confirmed to die. Kim had secretly bought 16 life insurance policies in the name of Lee in five months after remarrying him so that she can draw money when her new husband dies, according to the police.
A police officer said that Kim conspired with Jung to let her husband sleep after drinking dandelion juice with sleeping pills at her home in Muan County in July, 2006. They drove him in deep sleep and pushed the car with him into a nearby reservoir.
At that time, police found the car with Lee’s drug-addicted body in the reservoir. But they couldn’t find the evidence that Kim and Jung killed them, leaving the case unsolved.
However, police resumed investigation of the murder case last August in the wake of launching an investigation team in charge of insurance crimes. The police were able to get another accomplice, Moon, 53, to confess on the murder and interrogated Kim and Jung.
The woman worked as an insurance broker, but she was running a restaurant when she met Lee.
