Korea has decided to provide US$1 million in humanitarian aid for the Syrian opposition, joining a series of international efforts to help end the bloody crackdown by the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, officials said Friday.
Details of the humanitarian aid plan will be officially unveiled at the second "Friends of Syria" talks in Turkey set for Sunday, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Along with some 60 nations, Korea took part in the first such meeting in Tunis, Tunisia in February to stop the violence in Syria.
More than 9,000 people have died in Syria in the past year because of the violent crackdown by the al-Assad regime, the United Nations said this week. At least one million Syrians need humanitarian aid, according to the U.N. (Yonhap)
