North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is allegedly having an affair with a married singer older than him
In an interview with Daily NK, a Seoul-based online newspaper on North Korea-related news, a North Korean defector said that a female vocalist who sang in the concert, “Women are Spring,” with North Korea’s Eunhasu (Milky Way) Orchestra held on March 8, has been having sexual relations with North Korea’s new young leader.
Hyun Song-wol, the former vocalist of the Bocheonbo Electronic Music Band, sang the song, “Excellent Horse-Like Lady,” on the stage marking the March 3 International Women’s Day. Kim attended the concert, the defector said.
“Hyun abruptly suspended her music activity in 2006. She had been a leading vocalist of the Bocheonbo Electronic Music Band,” the defector said. A graduate of Pyongyang Music College, Hyun returned home from her activities as the part of a famous North Korean art troupe after the death of Kim Jong-il.
The vocalist sang songs “Future is Beautiful” and “Whistling Bachelor,” which became famous when the Bocheonbo Band released them in 2006. “Excellent Horse-Like Lady” was a song that was popular when she released it in 2005.
According to the defector, Kim and Hyun started to see each other in the early 2000s when Kim returned home from his studies in Bern, Switzerland. Kim is reported to have developed a crush on Hyun while watching her performance during a concert by the Bocheonbo Electronic Music Band which his father often enjoyed.
“I believe that Hyun was dating another man but started seeing Kim due to his persistent efforts,” the defector was quoted as saying.
“Kim Jong-un accepted an order from his father to break up with Hyun ahead graduating from the Kim Il-sung Military University. At that time, Hyun married her current husband,” the defector said. “I believe that she has continued her relationship with Kim at the request of the latter although she is married.” The defector said that Hyun’s husband is an officer of the Guard Command.
