With a nylon rope around her neck, the wife of a former intelligence agency official jumped from a fourth-floor window at a court building in Seoul on Thursday in an apparent attempt to kill herself over unsatisfactory rulings in her divorce suit, police said.
The 48-year-old, identified only by her surname Oh, was hanging from the window for about 20 minutes from around 12:30 p.m. before rescue workers on a fire truck ladder got her down, administered CPR and then sped her to hospital.
"Her heart is beating, but she's on artificial respiration as she can't breathe on her own," a police official said.
The apparent suicide attempt came two hours before the Seoul High Court was to deliver a verdict in a retrial of Oh's lawsuit seeking a divorce from her husband, a former official of the National Intelligence Service, and division of their wealth.
Oh, who first filed the suit in 2007, was upset with previous rulings on how the couple's assets should be divided, claiming that the exact salaries and bonuses of her husband were unclear and the intelligence agency also refused to disclose the information, officials said.
Oh left a note on the fourth floor of the building, saying that she wants a fair verdict. (Yonhap)
