A 31-year-old man shot a hunting rifle at former colleagues inside an industrial plant in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, killing one and critically injuring two others, police said Wednesday.

According the Seosan Police Station, the former employee of the plant surnamed Seong fired about 50 bullets at a group of workers outside the factory at 9:40 a.m.

A 38-year-old employee named Choi died at the scene after being shot in the chest, while a 30-year-old man surnamed Lim and a 56-year-old, Moon, sustained injuries.

``Seong stated that he had quit the plant three years ago after being harassed by coworkers. He said he fired the rifle at them in revenge,’’ a police officer said.

After the shooting, Seong fled the scene, driving his car onto the Seohaean Expressway stretching from Incheon to Mokpo along the western coast. He was heading north toward Seoul.

Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and entered into a car chase. His car was blocked by patrol cars right after crossing the Seohae Bridge.

Before being apprehended Seong had ingested some pesticide and was transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is in a stable condition, a police officer said.
