Police chief to visit Philippines, Vietnam

Cho Hyun-oh, commissioner of the National Police Agency (NPA), on Sunday left for the Philippines as part of his four-day Southeast Asia trip that will also take him to Vietnam, Cho's office said.

Cho will meet with his counterparts in the Philippines and Vietnam Monday and Tuesday, respectively, for discussions on enhancing security for Korean communities in the Southeast Asian countries and increasing cooperation in criminal investigations, the office said.

During Cho's visit, South Korea and the Philippines are planning to sign an agreement on stationing one Korean officer at the latter's police headquarters to better deal with crimes involving Koreans, it noted.

The Philippines and Vietnam are among the most frequent destinations for South Korea's criminal fugitives. (Yonhap)
