2 Koreans missing in US national park of Mount Rainier

A search for two Koreans missing in Mount Rainier National Park in the U.S. state of Washington has been suspended due to bad weather, foreign ministry officials said Sunday.

The pair, a male surnamed Yang, 55, and a woman surnamed Jin, 54, had been scheduled to return on Jan. 16 from climbing the mountain's highest peak 4,392 meters above sea level, officials said.

It was unclear when the two, who belong to a mountaineering club, began their climb.

National park workers launched a search and a team of rescue workers located a camp at 3,105 meters on Jan. 19, but failed to find the missing pair, officials said.

Officials said they fear the two climbers may have run out of food.

Last week, a 66-year-old Korean snowshoer was rescued in the national park after spending two nights lost in freezing temperatures and a further two campers were also reported missing at the weekend.
