Korea's biggest book retailer Kyobo Book Center and Qualcomm Inc. said Tuesday that they have released a new electronic book reader here to boost the fledgling local e-book market.
Kyobo said the most important feature for new product is its screen display, which offers a great reading experience even under bright sunlight.
The KYOBO eReader adopted the Mirasol display technology by Qualcomm MEMS Technologies Inc., the U.S. chipmaker's wholly owned subsidiary.
Priced at 349,000 won ($304), the touch display reader comes with access to the 90,000 titles in the bookseller's electronic library and the ability to play videos and share content through social networking services, as well as English language text-to-speech capabilities.
The electronic version of the popular biography of Steve Jobs, written by Walter Isaacson, will also become available on the e-reader, Kyobo said.
The e-reader's battery can last 21 days with a single charge for 30 minutes of daily use.
The product is powered by Qualcomm's 1-gigahertz processor and is based on Android software. (Yonhap)
