Army soldier killed in apparent gun accident

A Korean soldier was killed in an apparent gun accident on Sunday near the coastal city of Gangneung, military officials said.

According to the military, the private first class, identified only by his surname Na, was shot with his own rifle at 6 p.m. while moving with two other soldiers to a guard post close to the city of Gangneung, some 237 kilometers east of Seoul.

After Na was shot in the chest with his K-2 rifle, the other soldiers rushed him to a nearby hospital but Na was pronounced dead, they said.

Officials said that they will further investigate the accident to find out the exact cause of the accident. (Yonhap)
