The National Police Agency (NPA) on Wednesday appointed a new police chief for the South Korean capital of Seoul, a city of 10.4 million residents, in a regular high-level reshuffle.
Lee Kang-deok, currently chief of the Gyeonggi Province police, was named Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner, the top police agency said. The 49-year-old police official is to replace Lee Sung-gyu.
Lee Chul-gyu, now chief of NPA's intelligence division, was appointed to head the Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency, according the national agency.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Suh Cheon-ho and the NPS' No. 2 Park Jong-joon were retained in their current positions, the police agency said. (Yonhap)
