The Colombian Navy has rescued four Koreans from their yacht after it suffered engine failure while sailing across the Caribbean, a Colombian official said Saturday.

Nobody aboard was injured in the incident, the Korean Embassy in Colombia said. The engine broke down on their way back to Korea after visiting St. Martin to purchase a yacht, the embassy said.

“We responded to a call from the Korean Embassy, which alerted us to a boat with four of its nationals aboard,” AFP quoted Commander Carlos Serrano as saying in describing Thursday’s rescue off the coast of La Guajira.

They had been sailing from St. Martin, in the Lesser Antilles on the east end of the Caribbean, to Panama, when their vessel, named the “Adventure,” suffered mechanical failure, the commander said. The crew, picked up by a Colombian Navy ship off the coast, “showed slight signs of dehydration,” the officer said.

The four will continue sailing home after repairing the boat, the embassy said.
