Yongsan Police Station said Tuesday it was seeking an arrest warrant for a bar owner who lured Chinese students in their 20s to sell sex at his establishment.
The owner, surnamed Kwon, posted a notice on a website visited by Chinese students saying they could earn 15,000 won per hour for serving drinks at the bar and get luxury Korean cosmetics at a cheap price. To those who agreed to work, he coaxed them into prostitution saying they could earn a lot more by entertaining men.
The students received 150,000 won for sex and 60,000 won for two hours of entertainment. They worked at the bar four to five times a month.
Out of the seven students who were apprehended, six were from China and Mongolia. They were students in their early 20s attending or on a leave of absence from private universities in Seoul.
One student who was illegally staying in the country was forced to leave.
Some of the students had re-sold the luxury cosmetic goods they got from Kwon to their friends. The students said that they did it to earn living expenses, according to police.
