Passerby hit and killed by brick

A 42-year-old woman died after being hit on the head by a brick thrown from the rooftop of an apartment building by an 11-year-old boy.

The woman, surnamed Kim, collapsed after being hit by the brick while walking past an apartment in Gwangju on Sept. 9, according to police.

She was hospitalized but died Wednesday from a cerebral hemorrhage.

Police caught the unidentified boy and his friends who were on the rooftop of the 16-story building.

The children said they were playing tag there and after he tripped on the brick, he threw it off the rooftop, adding he didn’t aim at Kim.

Police also see he didn’t intend to hit the woman, as people walking on the ground are not visible from the rooftop. While Kim’s family demand the boy be punished, police booked him without physical detention on suspicions of accidental homicide. The case will not be referred to the prosecution as he is a minor.
