Universities will admit a larger number of students through rolling admissions this year, the policy-setting committee of universities said Tuesday.
They agreed to pick 237,681 or 62.1 percent of the total quota of students they can admit through rolling admissions.
It marks a 0.5 percentage point increase from the previous year. This means 2,431 more students will be accepted into universities before the regular admissions season.
With the increase in the total number of early applicants, the number of students selected through the ‘admissions officer system’ will also rise.
This year, universities will admit 380,169 students through the admissions officer system, up 3,761 from a year earlier, with the percentage of students to be picked by the admissions officer system climbing to 16.1 from 15.
The application period for the admissions officer system is expected to begin on Aug. 1. The applications for other types of rolling admissions start Sept. 8.
Starting with POSTECH, Yonsei and Sungkyunkwan, 62 universities will begin receiving applications during August.
For the rolling admissions this year, the percentage of essay writing and interviews reflected in the total evaluation slightly decreased. Five universities decided not to conduct written exams.
Those who are accepted during the rolling admissions period may not apply for regular admissions.
