Most teens think they are ignored because of age

Most teenagers are interested in social issues but think they are ignored or restricted in expressing their opinions because of a social prejudice against them, a survey showed Tuesday.

According to the National Youth Policy Institute (NYPI), 75 percent of teenagers interviewed said they want to join in social activities but 73 percent of respondents think their views are disregarded because of their age.

The NYPI conducted the survey on 9,591 teenagers nationwide last year to examine the conditions of teenagers’ human rights.

“The result shows teenagers think there is social prejudice against them,” a researcher at the institute said. “We need to recognize them as part of our society and encourage them to express their opinions and freely join social activities.”

Teenagers also attributed the difficulty in participating social activities to the lack of information and free time, the survey said.
