Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo said Thursday he will decide whether to declare his bid to run in the next presidential election depending on the results of the general elections that will take place in April next year.

Kim, one of the potential presidential candidates of the ruling Grand National Party (GNP), may compete with former GNP Chairwoman Rep. Park Geun-hye, former GNP Chairman Chung Mong-joon and former GNP lawmaker Lee Jae-oh among others, for the party’s candidacy.

“I will remain as governor until next year’s general elections,” Kim told Yonhap News Agency. “I will decide whether to run in the presidential race after watching how the election unfolds.”

He also made it clear that he won’t run for the leadership of the conservative party at a party convention scheduled for July 4.
