A 53-year-old woman, surnamed Jang, has been arrested on charges of assaulting an old lady on a subway train shortly after giving up her seat to the woman, the police said Friday.
Jang was cited as saying that she assaulted the old woman after chewing some gum from her which she later thought contained poison, the police said.
According to the police, Jang slapped the 81-year-old woman in the face several times after receiving gum from the woman as a token of gratitude for letting her have her seat.
Jang told the police that she felt dizzy after she started chewing the gum and thought the woman tried to poison her.
But the police said they found no harmful substances in the gum.
