The man who was found dead with his hands and feet apparently nailed to a wooden cross earlier this month carried out the crucifixion on his own, the National Forensic Service (NFS) said Tuesday.
The 58-year-old taxi driver, identified only as Kim, was found dead near a deserted mine in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province, on May 1, a week after the Easter holiday.
“There was no evidence found to prove he was murdered or someone assisted the suicide,” an official from the NFS said. “The direct cause of death was excessive bleeding from the wound in his right side and suffocation from hanging on the cross.”
The man who was described by his neighbors as a religious fanatic seemed to plan the suicide in a detailed manner, given the tools he used and the note he left showing how to hang a person on a cross, the official said.
The NFS announcement came days after police also tentatively concluded that he committed suicide.
