S. Korea tops Asian competitiveness ranking

South Korea has the highest competitiveness in Asia, the Boao Forum in China reported.

It published the “Asian Competitiveness: Annual Report 2011” to mark the 10th anniversary of its founding.

It is the first time that the forum has made an assessment of Asian economies and enterprises.

South Korea topped the list of 35 Asian economies surveyed, followed by Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. China ranked 11th.

Countries that have a smaller economy or where it is hard to gather statistics, such as North Korea, Myanmar, Palestine and Yemen, were left out.

South Korea ranked high in various categories. It placed first in business administration, second in human capital and innovation indexes, fifth in the macro-economic index, sixth in the social development index and seventh in the indirect social capital index.

In the list of 12,779 enterprises surveyed PetroChina and China Petroleum & Chemical ranked first and third respectively.

Japan’s Toyota Motor placed second. South Korea’s Samsung Electronics ranked sixth.

‘한국 경쟁력, 아시아 국가 1위’

우리나라가 아시아 국가 중 경쟁력이 가장 높은 것으로 평가됐다. 중국이 설립해 올해 10주년을 맞은 보아오 포럼의 경쟁력 평가에 따른 것이다.

포럼은 설립 이후 처음으로 아시아 국가와 기업들을 평가했다. 보아오 포럼의 ‘아시아 경쟁력 보고서’에 따르면 국가별 종합경쟁력 순위에서 한국이 1위로 선정됐다. 2위는 대만, 3위는 일본, 4위는 싱가포르, 5위는 홍콩 순이었다. 중국은 11위에 그쳤다. 이번 평가는 아시아 국가 중

북한·미얀마·팔레스타인·예멘 등 경제 규모가 작거나 통계 확보가 어려운 국가를 뺀 35개 국가를 대상으로 했다.

종합 점수에서 1위를 차지한 한국은 비즈니스행정 효율지수(1위), 인적 자본과 혁신지수(2위)에서 높은 점수를 받았다.

거시경제지수(5위), 사회발전수준지수(6위), 사회간접자본지수(7위)에서도 상위권에 올랐다.

1만2779개 아시아 기업을 대상으로 한 기업별 평가에서 중국석유(페트로차이나)·중국석화(시노펙)이 1, 3위에 올랐다. 일본 도요타자동차가 2위, 한국의 삼성전자가 6위에 올랐다.
