Police Saturday arrested a postal worker suspected of murdering his colleague, who was found dead in an Incheon apartment stairway on March 3.
The 43-year-old, surnamed Yoon, has confessed to killing the 33-year-old victim, Kim, as the deceased had been pressing him to repay a debt of about 40 million won ($35,600), police said.
According to the police investigation, Kim and Yoon had worked together for about three years and were extremely close, and this made it easy for Yoon to take out a loan under Kim’s name.
“They started to quarrel over the money as Kim repeatedly asked Yoon to repay the debt as the bank was making calls demanding repayment from Kim. On the night before the murder, the two drank together and fought,” a police officer said.
Before the arrest, the police initially concluded Kim must have missed his footing and fallen down the stairs to his death between the 16th and 17th floors at around 3 p.m. while trying to quickly deliver parcels.
But the police launched an investigation as an autopsy revealed that he may have died from excessive bleeding after being hit hard on the head with a blunt object.
