A 38-year-old man was caught for having illegally conducted plastic surgery on hundreds of patients at his unlicensed clinic in Busan since 2009.
According to the Busan Geumjeong Police, Park established a cosmetic surgery clinic in Jingu, Busan under the name of a medical doctor whom he hired, and carried out plastic surgery on 472 patients for one year and eight months.
“He actively promoted the clinic to high school students and female office workers in the city,” a police officer said. “As a marketing strategy, he also promised them discounts, placing pictures of Miss Korea Pageant winners and other top entertainers at his clinic to lure more patients.”
Police also sought an arrest warrant against two doctors who helped Park’s illegal practices and indicted two governmental officers who allowed Park to open his clinic, even though it did not qualify by law.
“Many patients reported to police that they have suffered from serious side effects such as gangrene, scars and infection after surgery,” a police officer said.
The police plan to strengthen the crackdown on unlicensed plastic surgery clinics as there are many illegal operations ahead of the graduation season and entrance to new schools when many females go under the knife.
