Police apprehended a 31-year-old man, Monday, who is the suspected owner of two boxes containing 1 billion won ($894,000) in cash found at a storage facility in Seoul.

The man, identified as Lim, allegedly made the money from the illegal operation of online gambling sites. He is suspected of placing the two boxes in the facility in August, and another one containing 100 million won in September.

Lim operated illegal Internet gambling sites between October 2008 and April 2009, police said. He used false name, false resident registration number and three false cell phones when dropping off the boxes.

An investigation began on Feb. 9 when the manager of the storage unit reported the two boxes to police, suspecting they might be explosives. Through surveillance camera recordings, police confirmed Lim’s identity and found that he placed a third box there.

Lim left for Indonesia two days before the boxes were found. Police picked him up at Incheon International Airport upon his arrival Monday.
