Korean tourist dies while snorkeling in Mexico

Listen

MEXICO CITY -- One South Korean tourist died while snorkeling in a southern Mexican resort town earlier this week, the Korean embassy here said Tuesday.

The 32-year-old, identified only by his surname Kim, was given CPR by other tourists who found him floating in waters off the coast of Akumal on Monday afternoon, but without success, an embassy official said.

Mexican prosecutors concluded after a post-mortem examination that Kim had died of suffocation. His body will be transferred to his family, the same embassy official said.
