Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin will travel to Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next month to visit South Korean troops stationed there, the ministry said Saturday.
The morale-boosting trips will be made in mid-February, it said without providing specifics.
South Korea has about 340 troops in Afghanistan to protect the country's provincial reconstruction team of civilian aid workers. The contingent recently moved to a newly built base after it had been stationed at a U.S. air base in Bagram since June last year.
Earlier this month, a contingent of about 120 South Korean troops arrived in the UAE. The unit is tasked with helping train local troops in such areas as anti-terrorism and parachute infiltration operations as well as conducting joint exercises with UAE forces. (Yonhap)
