The Ministry of Unification suspended visit of workers to the industrial complex in the northern border town of Gaeseong for one day Monday for their security amid inter-Korean tensions.
“The government has decided to ban visit of workers to the Gaeseong industrial complex for one day Monday in consultations of agencies involved,” said a ministry official.
However, South Korean workers staying in the industrial complex will be able to return to Seoul as usual, the official said.
According to the ministry, 614 workers were scheduled to go to work to Gaesong Monday, while 421 workers were to return to Seoul Monday. A total of 311 South Koreans are staying in the North – 297 in Gaesong and 14 in Mt. Geumgang.
