Asiana set to hike intl passenger fares

Asiana Airlines Inc., the nation's second-largest carrier, will raise its fares for international passenger flights in August, the Ministry of Land, Transportation and Maritime Affairs said Monday.

A spokesman said that the airline will increase its fares for routes to the United States by 5 percent and to Europe, Australia and New Zealand by 10 percent.

Asiana's fare hike comes after Korea Air Lines Co., the nation's largest carrier, reported on July 13 its international fare hike plan to the government.

Korean Air plans to raise its international fares on routes to the U.S. by 5 percent, and flights for Europe, Australia and New Zealand by 10 percent starting August.
