Cheong Wa Dae has communication problem

Listen

The paramount problem the Cheong Wa Dae faces is inadequate communication, said the incoming chief of staff for President Lee Myung-bak.

Yim Tae-hee, who stepped down as labor minister to assume his new post as Lee’s chief aide, made the remark in his final speech at the labor department on Friday.

“Cheong Wa Dae has had a communication problem. And that’s the biggest problem it faces. A good internal and inter-departmental communication is a must,” Yim said, DongA Ilbo newspaper said on Saturday.

Yim, who will be a key architect behind the upcoming ministerial reshuffle, also said what analysts see as the “selection criteria” for the new cabinet members.

“I think a minister who couldn’t keep up with up-to-date issues under his supervision and has to rely on his aides for any speeches must quit. It’s not right for so many aides to waste their time for the (ineffective) minister,” he said.

This was the first time for Yim to “outline” publicly his vision in his would-be capacity.

Yim also mentioned a possible shift of the nation’s overall economic emphasis from the one that focused on the speed of development to wealth redistribution. “There is an increasing number of people who feel our society is unfair. The more people feel that way, the more unstable the society becomes,” he said.
