Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung-hwan and Minister of National Defense Kim Tae-young will meet their U.S. counterparts, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Roberts Gates, in Seoul next Wednesday to discuss matters of mutual concern, including alliance and North Korea, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.

At the inaugural 2+2 security talks, the four officials will review the accomplishments of and the prospects for the ROK-U.S. alliance on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the 1950-53 Korean War, the ministry said.

The meeting comes after the U.N. Security Council adopted a presidential statement last week which condemned the sinking of the South Korean warship Cheonan in March.

A multinational probe concluded in May that North Korea sank the Cheonan with a torpedo, which claimed the lives of 46 sailors.
