A young woman, who brutally assaulted her neighbor's cat last month, has been booked without physical detention for violating the Animal Protection Law, police said Thursday.

The 25-year-old is suspected of having beaten and thrown the Persian cat to its death from the 10th floor of the officetel building where she lives in Seocho-gu, southern Seoul.

According to police, the women, identified by her family name Chae, stated that she was angry after a quarrel with her boyfriend and vented her anger against the cat which was wandering around.

The cat owner and a civic group for animals' rights filed a complaint with police against her. Currently, those who treat animals cruelly are subject to fines of up to 5 million won ($4,160).
