The ruling Grand National Party (GNP) has picked six-term lawmaker Park Hee-tae, 72, as its candidate for parliamentary speaker, party officials said Monday.

Park was chosen without a race after Lee Yun-sung, a four-term lawmaker who previously served as a deputy parliamentary speaker, withdrew from the competition.
