11 Foreigners Win Hi Seoul Scholarship

Listen

Eleven foreign students pursuing doctorate degrees here have been chosen as Seoul scholarship beneficiaries, receiving up to 6 million won a year for up to two years.

The selected students are from China, Japan and Canada with five majoring in science and six in humanities. They are among this year's 303 "Hi Seoul Scholarship" beneficiaries.

A total of 2,700 students so far have benefited from the program, which was established in 2005.

"All 11 students showed tremendous enthusiasm toward their studies as well as affection for Seoul," city official Lee Su-yeon said.

The students will be rewarded by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon today.

The scholarships reflect Mayor Oh's interest in globalizing Seoul, which is increasingly attracting foreigners.
