Ex-Hankook Ilbo Editor Named Presidential Aide

Yoo Sung-sik, a former journalist who worked at the Hankook Ilbo, a sister paper of The Korea Times, was named Wednesday as a secretary for civil affairs for President Lee Myung-bak.

Born in Seoul in 1963, Yoo served as editor of the daily's politics news division before moving to the presidential office. He majored in East Asian studies at Seoul National University.

Cheong Wa Dae also appointed Kim Young-soo, 50, a native of South Chungcheong Province, as chief speech writer for the President. Kim had been a professor of political science at Yeongnam University.
