Recas Academy, a private institute in Gangnam, southern Seoul specializing in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), has been sued for plagiarizing an SAT test prep book published by an American institute.

According to the prosecutors' office in Seoul, the private cram school, which was also recently caught for leaking SAT questions, is under investigation for plagiarizing about 30 SAT test books produced by Elite Educational Institute in the U.S.

The U.S-based institute filed a lawsuit against the hagwon last October. However, Recas is insisting that the books were made by one of its former lecturers, Jeffrey Sohn.

The former lecturer was kidnapped and beaten last December after he attempted to leave the academy for another one, police said.

Sohn, who is teaching English composition for the SAT, reported to police that he was taken against his will to a villa in Gyeonggi Province. Police have already taken confessions from those who were involved in the kidnapping.
